3-D bevel face letters made of high density urethane. These bevel face letters were cut out on our CNC router. The raw HDU is light green and very porous. They get a thorough hand sanding before priming.
It takes days of hand sanding to get the super smooth finish we need before painting.
Some 24" letters primed, sanded and ready for painting.
After several rounds of priming and sanding, the letters are painted with a high gloss metallic gold finish before we apply the gold leaf.
After the paint dries, the letters are coated with an adhesive liquid and allowed to cure overnight. The adhesive is what the gold leaf stick to. We lay mirco thin sheets of 23.5 karat gold leaf on the letters and press it into the sticky surface.
The final step of burnishing the gold with cotton to make it smooth and shiny.
A batch of finished letters. It's a time consuming process, but nothing compares to the lasting beauty of genuine gold leaf.
These letters were produced for Raglan Road Irish Pub in Downtown Disney, Orlando Florida.
